Why we’re closing LettUs Grow HQ early to mark International Women’s Day
In the UK and around the world, women are paid less. A lot less. The UN estimates the gender pay gap globally is around 20%. That means women are effectively only paid for 6 hours of a standard 7.5 hour work day.
We do our best to address this internally, taking gender bias into account in our remuneration reviews each year and ensuring that women on our teams have the same access to opportunities to grow in their roles.
But this International Women’s Day, rather than just telling you why we’re different, we want to stand in solidarity with women around the world. That’s why today we’re closing LettUs Grow HQ 1.5 hrs early to highlight how much work is going unpaid to women around the world each and every day.
We think it’s important that this problem is really felt and understood by everybody - no matter their gender - which is why everyone, not just the women, are putting their tools down and closing the site early today.
Across our 36 staff members that's 54 hrs of work left on the table from just one day at an SME. Scale that up to all working women, 365 days a year and that’s billions of hours of labour women perform unpaid.
Let's use this time to reflect on the staggering impact of the gender pay gap. By closing LettUs Grow HQ early today, we hope to shed light on the billions of hours of unpaid labour performed by women worldwide. Together, let's strive for a more equitable future.
