Growing through Covid-19 together
Working together, from afar
Most of our staff can continue their day-to-day work from home. We have provided equipment where necessary to support them and allow them to practice social distancing. As humans, we are lucky to live in such a technologically advanced age, and have made use of the fantastic collaborative platforms available to us, such as Google Hangouts, Slack and Monday.com, to keep in touch and support everyone’s well being.
Building farms
If we can prevent it, we will not halt the building of farms already underway. Implementing remote working for all non-growing and non-construction staff has also allowed us to free up plenty of space. This means those who need to continue to work on-site can still safely practice social distancing. The livelihoods of our contractors, many of whom are self-employed, depend on us and we believe localised indoor farms will become a key piece of infrastructure in the months and years to come.
Continuing to grow
We have implemented a one in one out system on the farm to allow our growers to socially distance themselves. The sanitation measures we already have in place go a long way in keeping people safe, including the use of PPE, regular hand washing, hand sanitizer and gloves.
The nature of our technology means that we can run most of our farming operations remotely. Our farm management software Ostara means that lighting, irrigation, fertigation and environment can be automated reducing the need for multiple growers to be constantly on-site. Since little contact time is necessary, our growers are able to visit the farm in shifts to sow, harvest and package crops while continuing to practice social distancing.
Moving forward
As ever, we will continue to monitor and align our procedures with the latest government advice and are working hard to ensure that we provide the most support to our staff, customers and communities in this difficult time. We will be continuing to keep you all updated using our social media platforms, website and newsletter as we continue growing.
We would also encourage anyone self-isolating at home to grow alongside us - so keep an eye out on our social media and continue to share your growing journeys with us.
Stay safe everyone.
